Ugandan-born, Glasgow-based DJ, radio host, producer and organiser MAVEEN operates at the intersection of club culture, community infrastructure and independent music development.
Arriving in Scotland as a refugee aged four, his relationship with music began through bedroom production and later creating mix before evolving into a wider curatorial and ecosystem building practice. Sonically, his sets sit between house, disco and bass heavy club music - grounded in swing, polyrhythm and groove. Warm chords and percussive low-end, shape selections that honour dance music’s roots while remaining forward facing. He is the founder of KIN-TU, a DIY label and creative platform supporting emerging artists across Glasgow and beyond. Initially launched to platform local producers, the project has expanded into a multi-strand ecosystem spanning vinyl releases, digital projects, club residencies and touring showcases. Through its “phase” parties and KIN-TU & Friends takeovers, the platform centres Black and Queer artists while foregrounding the cultural histories that underpin contemporary club music. His work also extends into cultural programming and sector development. He produced KIN-TU x Berlin: Building Global Connections (circa 2025), a panel connecting artists, label founders, radio platforms and community organisers from both cities to explore sustainable infrastructure and inclusive artist development models. He also produced Time to Move for Black History Month in collaboration with Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art and CRER (Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights). Inspired by the 1970s Wattstax concert, the programme brought together DJs, performers and spoken word artists to reflect on colonial histories while celebrating the resilience and global influence of Black music and culture. Alongside club work, his monthly residency on Radio Buena Vida functions as an open listening space - mapping the outer edges of his influences. Whether on radio or dance floor, the intention remains consistent: to build spaces where music holds people, challenges expectation and moves bodies.
